Thanks for reminding mojo2007 about the pamphlet. Looking forward to seeing the missing pages.
I forgot all about that!
I forgot all about that!
It's been so long since I've read many of these sources I'm rather rusty.
As we make progress with the site, I'll slowly get reacquainted with the various sources and information!
wiki facts
I posted some figures on the wiki site but somebody has edited them out. I will see if the old Reveille article is still in the loft
These biographies you've
These biographies you've compiled are lovely to read, Gary. :)
All excellent dancers, but among them, I see my top favourite was born Cheryl and began in a production of "Copellia". I'd not heard of that, but she and the others all went from strength to strength and brought so much joy to all of us viewers in one or more of the TOTP dance groups. :)
Claire
Thanks Claire,
I'm glad you enjoy reading the biographies.
I'm in the process of writing Cherry's biography and hope to have it published soon. It's quite a big bio but it contains plenty of information about her life before and after Top of the Pops so I hope you find something in it that you've always wanted to know.
Thanks again
Gary
Wow! Cherry! :)
Wow! Cherry :)
You're welcome, Gary.
Although I love all the dancers, Cherry is my top favourite, so her biography will be of extra interest to read, and I can't wait! :)
I look forward to reading your update in due course.

Five things you didn't know about...
I wonder if this could contain the nuggets of a rolling quiz? Can anyone come up with five 'obscure' facts about a dancer and see if anyone can guess who it is? Or even one obscure fact?!

Which song did Jo Cook dance solo to, and when?, and
Did all the dancers of all 5 groups do solos?
With the limited footage and data available, full details of which dancers appeared to each routine aren't all known, but I'm very impressed by what I've read to date. :)
One of them, quite recently, of Flick dancing to Amazing Grace on 14/1/71.
I commend Panfan for re-dubbing the graceful Flick dance to the original soundtrack. :)
Claire
... about Louise
"She performed in a West End production when she was 20"

Louise's West End play
I can only think of Lie Down, I Think I Love You.
The caption for a Daily Mirror photoshoot reads:
20-year-old Louise Clark(e), from Kilburn, is following in the footsteps of her sister Carol Friday. Louise, a dancer with Pan's People, will shortly be taking to the West End stage herself when she has a major role in Lie Down, I Think I Love You, which has its premiere at the beginning of the new year [1970].
But the premiere wasn't until the following October ... I've always been confused by this. Either Louise was replaced by UFO actress Antonia Ellis or its short run prevented her of having the opportunity to take over the role. Either way, a personal setback but one that, thankfully, allowed her to continue with Pan's People (Green River, etc.).
From webpage Over the Footlights - London Musicals 1970-71
LIE DOWN, I THINK I LOVE YOU
London run:
Strand, October 14th (13 Performances)
Music & Lyrics: Ceredig Davies; Book: John Gorrie; Director: John Gorrie / Geoffrey Cauley; Choreographer: Geoffrey Cauley; Musical Director: David Cullen; Producer: Daniel Rees
Cast: Tim Curry (Peter), Antonia Ellis (Kate), Ray Brooks (Tom), Vanessa Miles (Anna), Ray Davis, Malcolm Reynolds, Patricia Hammond.[Patti Hammond?]
Story:
A strange kind of English version of “Hair”, where a group of student-hippies, led by Tom and Anna, decide to “do their own thing”, which apart from sex, drugs and nudity, includes putting a bomb on the top of the BBC’s Broadcasting House.
Tom’s sister comes up from the country to see her gay brother and is shocked to find him presiding over a house full of drop-outs, but she still manages to appropriate Tom’s boyfriend for herself.
Notes:
John Gorrie, the original director and librettist, walked out of the show during rehearsals, and demanded that his name be taken off the posters and programmes.
I hadn't realised Louise had
I hadn't realised Louise had done drama. :)
Did any of the other dancers of any or all of the 5 dance groups also ever do drama, Cornershop?
Claire
Louise's play
Thanks for finding this Cornershop, very interesting! We'll have to see if we can find out about this, and maybe Peter can comment on whether the Pattis are the same?
Patricia Hammond
Patti's maiden name is Whittle and she would have been 20 in 1970 when the play was produced. Was your sister married by 1970 and using her married name as her professional name tby that time, Peter?
Hi Gary,
Hi Gary. Hmmm.....I'll get back to you on this one.
