Nostalgia ain't what it used to be

Either I'm going mad, which I probably am, or... there was some technical hitch with a certain TOTP broadcast (I think it was connected to a strike) and for some reason the only routine the Peeps could manage was a 'solo' by one of the girls.  Can't remember the year, the track, or the girl.

Anyway down on her knees she went, and boy did she know how to wriggle, writhe and hipsway.  Kinda lapdancy type workout, but feminine and sensual rather than 'in yer face' gymnastica.  It was the most erotic thing I've ever seen, a turn of phrase which it seems to be compulsory for male fans to use when reminiscing in this way.

I need help.  As you've probably gathered.  But I need to i.  identify this routine, ii.  get my hands on it, if you will.

I will happily pay one million pounds to anyone who can help me, please form an orderly queue now.

Could it be Flick Colby dancing to 'Bridge over troubled water'? I've always wanted to see that one.

You're not misremembering the "Hip Hug" (see my avatar)?

This may well have no bearing on the 'item' at hand, anyway...

There are two 'solo' routines presently available via YouTube: one by Babs and the other by Cherry.
The Bas solo-she looks at her most beautiful there (her most gorgeous has to be in the surreal vidoclip 'sugar me' the same routine also going about on Youtube as Nillsons 'lime in the coconut')-well that would not qualify because its her dressed in period costume swanning around outdoors-to Dylans 'Lay Lady Lay').

On the other hand Cherry's solo is really that- a solo dance-but I dont know where it's sourced from-I haven't seen alot of the concert stuff apart from whats on Youtube or those high quality mpegs referred to elsewhere in this site (I think 'kirstysknickers' was the source for those). So I dont know if that Cherry solo was on TOTP or a concert thing. That is, take a look - but I dont remember her writhing around on the floor when I watched it.

(Jeez... its sad being middle aged ...and yet in truth I would actually be interested in watching any of Pans writhing around on the floor !!-I suppose thats the 15 year old that's left in me. I wouldn't be interested though in watching -say- any of todays 'stars' writhing around-which they do alot of. (OK maybe Paula Abdul -a true dancer and a 'stunner' also in my view - but then shes not been 'current' for the last 15 years))

[Speaking of solos, I was told on this site that Ruths solo on the 'concert' video was the most alluring/sexy of the lot-but thats probably coming from a similarly inspired and biased 'Ruth-man' like me.]

be 'seeing' you, as No 6 used to say,

Cherry is dancing to "Misty Blue" by Dorothy Moore from Top of The Pops 24/6/76.

Babs' filmed solo accompanies John Denver (BBC 1973 series) singing "Barbara Allen".

Can someone explain why people change the music to something different to what is actually being danced to?  Roll Eyes The purpose being?

Maybe it is down to music rights or something. Someone posted Hot Gossip dancing to Brown Suger but later the music was changed because of music rights.

Yeh-I wonder about that-different music to same video-but I put it down to just creativity and well meaning altruistic people sharimng what they've made -and great stuff to boot !

Notice the one where they are wearing beautiful long very well fitting white dresses-there are 3 versions of that video clip with different audio- Guitar man (Bread?) -Aretha Franklins version of 'walk on by' -and Everfy time it Rains -ace of base. Thats a great dance routine also (but I'm going off the topic of this main thread here).

be seeing you,

Interesting comments regarding Nilson's 'Coconut' film clip of Pan's in what appears to be a quarry.  It appears to have been shown on BBC4 recently but I can't find reference to what the programme was (it appeared on YouTube with the BBC4 ident).  Are we sure it's not a piece to 'Coconut' and has been audio-swapped on youTube as the dance fits perfectly with the lyrics - 'curing bellyache' . . . Babs and girls hold stomachs, has coconuts in it, 'I said doctor, will it cure my bellyache?' . . . Babs holds-up bottle of tonic and points to it etc . . . fits like a glove?

I'd be interested to hear anyone's thoughts on its definitive origins.
