This is puzzling me:

Is the silhouetted audience part of "Soul Train" or in the Top Of The Pops studio for Deniece Williams' Free?

I can see that at least some dancers are in the US studio for Soul Train, but the silhouetted ones remain a mystery.

Hi Claire - I think it's the 'Soul Train' audience throughout.

Here is a link to the 'Top Of The Pops' performance dated Thursday 21st April 1977.The same edition that  L&Co. danced in 'Pan's People style' to 'Sir Duke' by Stevie Wonder.

Deniece Williams - 'Free' - backed by 'The Top Of The Pops Orchestra' & 'The Ladybirds ' :

Hi Peter

You're probably right, but it's one of those rare occasions when it's not easy to tell whether the audience or BBC studio based or on the footage performed elsewhere.

That's a great performance. :)

I love the TOTP performance by Deniece Williams.A good song, and she's got a great voice.I also love the duet she does with Johnny Mathis singing 'Too Little Too Late'.

I also love the duet.

I agree Glenn.I think that 'The Ladybirds' singing in the background makes the song that much more perceptive.

Sorry, I couldnt resist that!, I also love Denise Williams performing Free on TOTP, what a singer, I also love the backing music and backing singers, I really like The Ladybirds vocals, tallented ladies.

I bought the album which features the song Free by Denise Williams and it has three versions of the song.

Has anyone noticed the lenth of Miss Williams finger nails?, I thought I was seeing things at first, lol.

Cheers everyone

Hi PJ

Ah yes, Deniece must be wearing stuck on fingernails.  They look really good.  I've always painted my own, but while the stuck on types also look good, they must be cumbersome to wear. :D, especially for the Ladies! lol
