*** PHOTO GALLERIES ***

Some input required please!

I'm still wrestling with the Gallery module: it is supposed to fit in the menu bar at the top (I temporarily removed it, as it was currently a waste of space as it led only to an "in progress" placeholder.

This module will (eventually, I hope!) bring up a "gallery" where images are sorted according to type, and you can comment on them too.  Nothing that can't be done elsewhere I suppose, but it looks better, and is more readily findable.  (What most visitors want are videos and photos, so we have to make if easy for them to find it.)

For the moment, because people are asking about it, and it can help get photos logically assembled, I propose having a dedicated spot in the forum here.  When the Gallery module is up and running, I can transfer everything, correctly attributed, to the module.

So we have two (I think!) options:

1) a single forum section containing all the photos, (like  this "Community" section, "Watch routines", etc etc), or;

2) a dedicated photo thread in each of the pre-existing sections, like add a photo thread in the Ruth forum, one in the Louise section, etc.

The second solution has the advantage of keeping the subject matter together, but the first keeps content type together.  Which consideration is more important?  Which do you think would be the best way to do it?  If we choose one, it's easy enough to change to the other, so it's not irrevocable!

I'm leaning to 1) I think, as it might keep things tidier and reinforce the separation fo images from written content, but would like to hear others' opinions.

In terms of grouping, obviously the separate troupes come to mind, then perhaps apart from group photos, single shots might be the only category worth having?

Let me know what you think!

I would love to see the picture of Pans People added which was in the TOTP 1977 Annual where the girls are watching Cherry as she is getting measured for a new costume, Ive always thought Mary & Sue look look really amazing in that picture ( saying that all the girls did ), I had that Annual for Christmas in 1976 and as a 11 year old, I was besotted with Mary, Sue and Lee especially.

Here you are, Lee and Mary Fan. Credit to 'Patti'sdaughter', who posted this at One for the Dads:

Thank You Cornershop, great to see this lovely picture again, even better without the yellow tint which it had in the 1977 TOTP Annual, how I would love to obtain an original photo print of this.

Ladies, you looked amazing in this picture.

Thanks again Cornershop.

Excellent photos, Andy. These photos were obviously taken at the same time as the Multi-Glide advertisements because they are wearing the same outfits. Andi's still in the group but Flick isn't so it must be circa 1972

Thanks for that information, Andy. It's always great to have a exact details. Thanks again.

Yes, Nice to see my favourites featured and also my favourite Pans People routine.

I have been featuring many Pans People pictures on my Flickr picture stream and giving lots of sly promotion to Pans People . com.

Well, Thats made my heart flutter, lol.

What an impressive picture, great to see Dee Dee and Flick there, I love their hairstyles and Mary looks so lovely....in fact so does each member.

Is this the same as the newspaper picture that was posted on this site?

Some good finds there guys.  Surprised nobody has commented that three of the girls are wearing different bikinis in the "Barbados" photos than the ones they actually wore for the transmitted performance.

http://www.rexfeatures.com/search/?&kw=top%2520of%2520the%2520pops%25201...

Are the following Pan's People photos, all one dance routine, from the same edition as Thunderclap Newman?, and which edition?

Who are the Pan's People dancers in this routine - Is it Andrea, Babs, Flick and Louise?

As some b/w photos are taken from colour shows, I've not ruled out the Christmas Day show.

Claire

I think it looks more like Dee Dee than Louise but I may be wrong.

Boogiebox's picture

Hi Mojo

As there is no other known source, I've enlarged the photos.

Hope these photos will suffice.

Pan's People, 19/6/69, 3/7/69 or 25/12/69?

The Beatles – The Ballad Of John And Yoko – 19/6/69 (confirmed Pan's People routine)
Booker T. And The M.G.'s – Time Is Tight – 19/6/69
Crazy Elephant – Gimme Gimme Good Lovin' – 3/7/69 (confirmed Pan's People routine) or
Creedence Clearwater Revival – Bad Moon Rising – 25/12/69

Which dance routine and date is this routine?;

Do I have the correct dancers line-up?:

Who are the Pan's People dancers in this routine - Is it Andrea, Babs, Flick and Dee Dee? or Louise?

Thunderclap Newman – Something In The Air, 19/6/69, 3/7/69 or 25/12/69? - From the same set

Am I right in thinking the Thunderclap Newman performance is from one of the above dates?

If not, presumably sets lasted about a month before being changed, which would mean there are other PP disc routines to consider, but not identified on the database.

Anyone know this b/w routine, and if Thunderclap Newman is from the same edition?

Claire

Flight14's picture

Brilliant.I wish we had a video of this routine,Claire.

Boogiebox's picture

Hi Peter

I agree.

It's so darned frustrating that this is one of many wiped routines.

As the photos are all b/w, they're most likely pre-27/11/69, but not necessarily, as some colour broadcasts exist as b/w photos, so I've included 25/12/69 to accommodate this possibility.

I almost re-enlarged the photos a second time, but the problem is, when I enlarged them, they became a bit blurred.  Unfortunately, the size I first put up is the original size taken from the Rexfeatures web site.

I'll put a bet on it being Crazy Elephant, but I could be completely wrong.  I've managed to narrow down to four 1969 disc entries that coincide with when both Thunderclap Newman and a Disc appeared.

Claire

Flight14's picture

It's not like there's any clues in the photos themselves, Claire. So you think maybe Crazy Elephant  'Gimme,Gimme Good Lovin'':Thurs 3rd July 1969 ?.Perhaps 'I Heard It Through The Grapevine' - Th 27 Feb 1969.I'd like to think it was 'Get Back' from Th 1st May 1969.Anyway any TOTP P P studio photos from 1969 are rare gems ! let alone the goldmine of an actual dance routine video;which we don't currently possess, nor does anyone else? it seems. Thanks for them.

Boogiebox's picture

From a process of elimination, it's from summer 1969 or 25/12/69, due to the fact that Thunderclap Newman has the same background set.

On further thought, the photos could be from The Ballad Of John And Yoko, but only a guess until definite proof becomes available.  More photos from the same routine might give it away.

Time Is Tight and Bad Moon Rising aren't officially identified as Pan's People routines, but could be.  Either could easily qualify for being PP dances, but this would have to be confirmed.

It's cool that at least some 1969 TOTP photos are in existence. :)

Claire

Flight14's picture

Sharing the same TOTP set as Thunderclap Newman-well spotted Claire; then is likely to either be:

The Beatles - 'The Ballad Of John & Yoko' Th 19th June 1969  or

Crazy Elephant - 'Gimme,Gimme Good Loving' Th 3rd July 1969.

Boogiebox's picture

As far as I know, but I'm not yet definite, different performances with identical sets are always from the same shows.  If they are, one of the four discs above will be the unidentified 1969 routine.  It's just a shame it's one of the many wiped PP routines. :(

A larger scan of Flick

Boogiebox's picture

Hi Andy

Thanks for the enlarged photo.

Unless you've got this from a different source, you've managed to enlarge the photo or post it from its original enlarged size, depending on where you obtained this, without making the picture blurred.

I found the pictures became blurred when I enlarge the four photos including this one, but I agree with Mojo, that the small size made it harder to see the faces of the dancers.

This is another lovely photo. :)

A friend got a Q Magazine (I think that what it was) and it had 4 separate photos of moments in music and this picture of Flick was in the collection.

Boogiebox's picture

Hi Andy

That was a bit of luck that the magazine has a larger photo of the same b/w routine I uploaded yesterday. :)

It's still a mystery as to which one it is, but I've narrowed it down to four.  It's a lovely photo.

Boogiebox's picture

Hi Glenn

Among the many aspects of this excellent site, I always enjoy seeing photos of especially the wiped routines, always hoping a number of them will turn up.

It's a shame the photos weren't logged with details of the artists and songs, both those of the artists themselves and the dance routines to them, as well as the transmission dates relating to the photos, as many remain unidentified.

Saying that, many of you have come up trumps in identifying a good number and it's nice to piece together the info relating to the photos and determining new info on previously unidentified dance routines from videos, audio copies of TOTP, newspaper cuttings and members' memories, but all info, footage and photos are of great interest. :)

The Q magazine sounds very familiar.  I'll try to locate the photo section you're referring to.  The photos are scattered around, so not easy, but I've seen a good number of photos including of Marmalade, The Tremeloes, Mr Bloe and Pan's People routines among many others. :)

Update 6 August: I've re-added all photos, very time consuming, as they'd all vanished before.  Is there a way to stop the photos from vanishing?, and what are the full and correct line-ups for the following routines?

I've put what I know or believe to be the right details.

Also, what are the dates of these routines?

The Supremes - Nathan Jones, 16/9/71 (?)

As this set is identical to that of Clodagh Rodgers' Lady Love Bug from 16/9/71, this unidentified routine could be from the same date, or if not, the autumn or winter of 1971

Comparing the discs for 16/9/71, if this date, this song seems the most likely candidate.

Boogiebox's picture

Do I have the correct and complete info for the following dancers?

Especially for the b/w photos and the first colour photo, this is essential, to help narrow down to the routines in question, but all very useful for crediting the dancers, where info is available, and where photos are clear and big enough to see them :):

b/w Photos - Andrea, Babs, Flick and Dee Dee? or Louise?

1970s Colour Photo 1 (Routine and date unknown) - From left to right: Ruth, Cherry, Dee Dee, Babs, Louise

1970s Colour Photo 2 (The O'Jays - Love Train, 15/3/73) - From left to right: Babs, Cherry, Louise, Ruth?

1970s Colour Photo 3 (Art Garfunkel - I Only Have Eyes For You, 25/9/75 routine) - Cherry, Dee Dee, Lee, Mary, Ruth, Sue

PS: To be confirmed, it's possible that 29/3/73, the final of 3 discs for Love Train could be a repeat of Pan's People?; 22/3/73 must be some other form of disc, as unless I'm mistaken, Pan's People never appeared two weeks in a row for the same song, or if they did, probably a very rare occurrence.

Hi Andy

Was this photo taken from a routine?

Claire

Andy's picture

Sorry in the book Photo 15 has no caption as to which routine it is just says Pans People

Another picture from this session was used as a wallpaper on the TOTP2 site

Boogiebox's picture

Hi Andy

It's cool to know the photo you then I uploaded was a Pan's People routine.  It's a shame many books don't list, possibly don't know details, of the dance routines and singers or their transmission dates, which would solve a lot of mysteries, but a great photo. :)

The TOTP 2 web site is also very good for photos. :)  Again, I don't always know which songs the photos of the artists are, but I think a fair number of their photos are from wiped routines as well as existing ones, as Bananarama are among them, which all survive, thankfully, as they were recorded in the 1980s.
